about kirsty

Kirsty is an Edinburgh based visual artist who was born and raised in North West of England.

After studying Physics at Oxford University, Kirsty lived and worked in London for many years. Although art has always been a joy and a passion, working in finance and raising a family meant that art was appreciated but not properly practiced until her move to Edinburgh.

Kirsty initially worked mainly with acrylics and inks.  However, she now enjoys working in a wide variety of mediums, from bicycle tyres to egg shells, coffee grounds, tea bags, rust and plaster, exploring the boundaries and characteristics of each element, and delighting in the exciting new possibilities.

She has studied at Edinburgh Drawing School and Contemporary Art Practice at Leith School of Art.

“My work challenges the audience to move closer and imagine the parts of the work that are not seen – to understand the inner world within, looking past the smooth veneer to recognise the underlying reality.

I push the work towards the edge of physical collapse, and in doing so examine the tension of strength against frailty.”
